Use the guide in your AI assistant.

Connect Claude or ChatGPT.

The guide has an MCP server: a public address an AI assistant can connect to, so it can search this guide, read its articles and cite the pages it used, build colour palettes with the guide’s own palette maker, browse its library of material photographs, and lay any of them in a pattern as a seamless tiled texture. It is free, read-only, and needs no account or key.

Your AI assistant answers from the guide.

Get reliable answers, right away.

Ask a practical question in your own words and get an answer drawn from the guide, with the page it comes from, instead of a guess from the open web. Clearances, furniture sizes, lighting levels, colour, acoustics and codes are all covered.

Prepare a brief, a project or a drawing.

Draft a program for a home or an office, check a layout while you draw, choose finishes for a room, or put together the checks a project needs before it is submitted.

Give your AI tool more context.

Any interior design task you hand your assistant, from a client email to a mood board or a presentation, starts from the same reliable grounding, so its answers stay accurate and consistent.

Questions.

What people ask most about MCP.

What is an MCP server?

An MCP server is a service that lets an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT use a source of information it would not otherwise have. This guide runs one: once you connect it, your assistant can search the guide and read its pages while it answers you, instead of relying only on what it learned in training.

What does MCP stand for?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard, introduced by Anthropic in 2024 and now supported by many AI tools, that defines how an assistant connects to outside sources of information and tools. Because it is a shared standard, one MCP server works with any assistant that supports it.

Does ChatGPT support MCP?

Yes. ChatGPT can connect to custom MCP servers, depending on your plan and, for business accounts, your workspace settings. Use the Connect button above with ChatGPT selected, or follow the steps in Set it up by hand.

What can my assistant access through this connector?

Only this guide. Its server is read-only: it lets your assistant search the published guide, read its pages, list its material library, and make colour palettes with its palette maker and tiled textures with its tiling builder. It cannot see your files, your chats, your drawings or any other account, and it cannot change anything.

Is it safe to connect an MCP server?

Connect only servers you trust, as you would install only apps you trust: a server can send your assistant information, and some can take actions. This one is public, read-only and needs no sign-in, so it never asks for a password and never receives your personal data.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Adding the connector takes a minute in your assistant's settings, and then you simply ask questions in plain language. Mention the guide by name, for example “Using The interior design guide, how wide should a hallway be?”, so your assistant knows to use it.

Does it cost anything?

The interior design guide’s server is free and needs no account or key. Whether you can add custom connectors depends on your Claude or ChatGPT plan.

How do I turn it off or remove it?

In Claude, open Customize › Connectors and remove The interior design guide, or switch it off for a single chat from + › Connectors. In ChatGPT, remove it from the same settings page where you added it. Nothing is left behind: the server keeps no record of you.
